What have you been up to? I'm a business now!

Hi guys, if you're reading this and haven't been here before, a big warm welcome to you! Please have a stay and look at my blog, and if you like what you see (which isn't that much yet) then go and have a look at my loop account where all my illustrations currently sit in a very cool fashion for your enjoyment....

Now that house keeping is out of the way...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have been a busy little bee since I finished my last elective for my illustration degree. I have officially started my business which is... yeah, you'd probably guess by the name, ILLUSTRATIONS! Yeah! Woot!
Some of my proudest pieces include:
The Luneys and the illustrations that I have done for them..

These were a part of a year long project that I did for my third and final year of my illustration degree. Basically, they are a race of rocks who are gifted with the power of imagination. Don't think they're perfect though, they have their ups and downs, their predators and tonnes of schooling to go through!

Character combination concepts

I did a series of character concepts that involve character combinations which were then to be used for environmental pieces. I am most proud of these pieces because they went through many stages of progress. The Lupaquilleque to the left here especially went through many different stages until I was happy with it (and my lecturer was too!)  To the left is how it started off. I also did about ten other copies of this one, and many countless sketches in my sketchbook! I think I can see a clear difference between this one and the illustration above..

Book covers

Anyone who knows me, knows that I am practically in love with my own characters, and that I love writing just about as much as I love to draw. For a very long time I have wanted to publish my own novels with my illustrations, so it's only natural that I would love to draw book cover illustrartions and design their layouts. To the left is book 3 of my series, Gemini Warriors.

In other news..

I'm available for commissions if you would like me to do something for you. Check out the link to my commissions post on my deviant art account.

LIBERATION! (finished my degree... almost!)

I have just (almost) finished my degree in visual communications (illustration specialisation) and now actually have a little more free time to update my blog.
Things I have been doing these past few weeks:
  • getting my portfolio ready for a mock interview. It now looks all professional and ready to take on the world.
  • reworking my old drawings that needed a bit if finesse before I was comfortable with it in my portfolio. This included touching up things that my lecturers had spoken about with me. It was nice to show them the work that I had done and they all seemed quite stunned actually at the amount I achieved since they spoke to me about it.
  • freaking out over a theory subject that if I didn't pass I would not be able to get my degree
  • somewhere between all the due dates, I still made time to go on an outing with my class as an end of year thing and catch up with my other half on a weekly basis... (even if I was completely glued to my laptop screen and my wacom tablet).
Aside from the work I was doing, I was more than ready to toss my new 1600 buck laptop with all its awesome specs onto the road when I ran into a very frustrating problem. Basically, it was an issue with something in the registry and it wouldnt let me type anything on my computer properly. I disowned my laptop for a week and used the boyfriends (and my mums, VERY LATE at night) to get all the work done.

Only thing left now is my two week intensive-hence the 'almost' part in the title of this blog. It is called idea generation methods for designers. If you havent already, you must check out Sir Ken Robinsons video on how schools are destroying people who are creative.

http://www.youtubevideos1.com/sir-ken-robinson-do-schools-kill-creativity/

I think he brings up such a good point that is easy to sit and listen to without getting bored because he seems to like adding in a little intelligent humour in here and there.

This is an example of what book 3 of my novel would look like when it is printed.
To the left is one of the images I used in my professional portfolio as an example for my book covers for my novel. I think it looks quite nice and I'm super excited for the day when I can go and get it published.

Anyways, this blog is too huge now so I'll be quite. Please tell me your thoughts and what you have been up to.. ^_^ Kerryannne

Not long left now

I'm almost finished my third year of studying illustration at uni. My goodness, I have learned a lot. It is really great to look back at my old work and see such an improvement in pretty much all areas I am interested in.

Just handed up my animal combination illustrations for assessment- and what a relief it is to have it done, despite how much I always enjoy doing the work.
My favourite piece turned out to be the Lupaquilleque. I think he looks very pretty and I loved using a combination of water soluable oil pastels and digital editing.

There are still a few adjustments that I need to make when i have a little more time. I got some really good feedback from my lecturers. They explained to me to look at it while squinting my eyes, and you can really see that most of the colour is of a similar intensity so I need to drop some things back a little.
Tell me what you think^-^

Oooh a great reference

Looking on the internet, I found this really awesome website called "Escape from Illustration island". It's kind of ironic because  the VERY next day, my lecturer at uni announced the website as a valuable resource for illustrators. I'd like to share it with those that are interested.

http://escapefromillustrationisland.com/

It has a bunch of awesome free stuff which is really helpful, and lots of art books you can download for free too.

In other news, I ordered my business cards for uni ^_^

This has gone through dozens of changes since I first had to come up with the idea, and I'm now relatively happy with the layout, text, and my logo. Only problem is i would have preferred to send a different web address with my business card now... too late for that! I just gotta live with it. Perhaps I will send people a post card or something with my new details on it later on down the track.

:) dont be afraid to say hi

What did I do wrong? Plus other news in my illustrations...

I hope I get some more people to watch me sometime heheh, apparently somehow I managed to watch myself, but I have NO IDEA how I managed it in the first place lol... anyways...

I am studying illustration at Uni at the moment, in my final part of the last year and have been doing character concepts. I love to work in mixed media and I recently did a work on my concept "cheetabee"  and I must say that I am rather proud of the result. I used oil pastel and digital rendering.

What do you think? I came up with the cheetah and the bee because they are both the same colours ^-^

So, I finally have a blog... Awesome!

I probably should be doing my uni work right about now, but I wanted to get a Blog as I guess a more 'personalised' page for myself as an illustrator. In this blog I'll be posting about my work I am doing, works in progress, and about a lot of other random (and interesting) things that go on in my day to day life.
That's about all for now ^-^
