Woooo I'm going to be a childrens book illustrator!!
Hi guys!! I've been so busy, I know its been much too long without a blog update.
I am so excited though, because I'm a soon to be published childrens illustrator. December 1 is the release date, though it might need to wait a little longer also as we're just getting some small details finalised.
This is the cover of the book. Its called "Erik The young Viking".
I stumbled across the jobs section on deviant art in July at some point and applied for a job being a childrens book illustrator for an up and coming publisher and writer in America, and BINGO! He chose me!! *happy dance*
Its been a long slog, but its totally been worth it. The author is pretty much 'the perfect client' and listens to my advice (and I listen to his opinions too!) about the book. It's always been my dream to be an illustrator and it's finally coming true. That doesn't mean I want to just stop at one though!
The cover went through many changes. The author eventually decided on the one above though, and that is because it is more general about the characters. There is talk of more than one book, so a general friendly introduction to the characters seems a better idea in any case.

Even though it didn't get chosen, this cover is still my favoruite. Its probably better used inside the book, but all of the illustrations have already been done anyway.
So what do you guys think? You can find more of my work...

I graduated!! Wooo!
Hi guys! Sorry its been a long time inbetween updates of the blog. Been so busy i almost forgot I had an internet presence. What have I been up to??
Well for one:
I graduated from My degree. To the left you can see one of the photos of me and my man on the day. Was a great day. Those Mortarboards are surprisingly heavy.
Also, I have been working on a childrens book, starting working experience, and just plain and simple getting my own life sorted out.
I'll make another blog soon when I'm not so tired from the day. Just wanted to let everyone know who might come across my blog that I am still here!

Why is freelance work so hard to find... for free!?
Hi guys,
I've been scouring the net for a couple of weeks now, searching high and low for freelance work to help me build upon my portfolio of work. The trouble that I am seeing time and time again is the amount of sites which allow you to look at work which is being posted on there, but then you have to PAY to be able to contact them through the site.
How does this make any sense? Illustrators and designers who are on the internet searching for work are doing it because they need the money. We shouldn't have to pay to be able to work, it's the people who post work who should be the ones paying for the services. Not saying that that doesn't happen as well, but it's just really frustrating. I have on my travels found a few good sites for freelancers to advertise themselves or contact people without having to go through a bunch of rigorous tasks just to be able to respond.
Portfolio sites that I have found useful-
coroflot.com- this has a job directory as well, so you just have to create a free account, then if you want to you can upload your work, and go after some jobs that have been advertised. It's probably one of the top professional portfolio sites that you don't have to pay a cent to join.
theloop.com.au- An Aussie portfolio site- free also. My favourite because it is professional and uses flash lightboxes to display work. This place also has a job search category.
deviantart.com- not a very professional looking website, but it tends to show up quite well on google search engines, normally being on the first page. they have loads of stuff here, including job offers, clubs, stock photos, lots!
classifiedsforfree.com- a site where you can make an advertisement of yourself including a link to your professional portfolio here. you don't even have to sign up, but it's recommended that you do so that you can edit your advertisement if you need to.
australiainfront.com.au- a good source for job searching
linkedin.com- a tad bit 'try hard' in my opinion to seem professional, but it is also a very good way to find yourself on the front page of a google search. You can post a link to your portfolio and link in with other professionals. If you can survive how dull the site looks, then it may be to your advantage.
simplyhired.com.au- a job search application that looks like a normal search engine, only it's for jobs. easy as pie.
sketchtheatre.com- a cool little website which hosts competitions, but it also has a jobs section. you can upload a portfolio too. it's a little bit odd navigational wise, but works. and its free.

What have you been up to? I'm a business now!
Hi guys, if you're reading this and haven't been here before, a big warm welcome to you! Please have a stay and look at my blog, and if you like what you see (which isn't that much yet) then go and have a look at my loop account where all my illustrations currently sit in a very cool fashion for your enjoyment....

Now that house keeping is out of the way...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have been a busy little bee since I finished my last elective for my illustration degree. I have officially started my business which is... yeah, you'd probably guess by the name, ILLUSTRATIONS! Yeah! Woot!
Some of my proudest pieces include:
The Luneys and the illustrations that I have done for them..
These were a part of a year long project that I did for my third and final year of my illustration degree. Basically, they are a race of rocks who are gifted with the power of imagination. Don't think they're perfect though, they have their ups and downs, their predators and tonnes of schooling to go through!
Character combination concepts
I did a series of character concepts that involve character combinations which were then to be used for environmental pieces. I am most proud of these pieces because they went through many stages of progress. The Lupaquilleque to the left here especially went through many different stages until I was happy with it (and my lecturer was too!) To the left is how it started off. I also did about ten other copies of this one, and many countless sketches in my sketchbook! I think I can see a clear difference between this one and the illustration above..
Book covers
Anyone who knows me, knows that I am practically in love with my own characters, and that I love writing just about as much as I love to draw. For a very long time I have wanted to publish my own novels with my illustrations, so it's only natural that I would love to draw book cover illustrartions and design their layouts. To the left is book 3 of my series, Gemini Warriors.
In other news..
----------------------------------------------------------
I'm available for commissions if you would like me to do something for you. Check out the link to my commissions post on my deviant art account.

My best friend is also an illustrator! be sure to check her website out!

Total eclipse of the heart- literal version
There are many great literal videos on youtube.. this one made me laugh the most though!
Please comment and tell me your thoughts on anything you read or looked at here!

LIBERATION! (finished my degree... almost!)
I have just (almost) finished my degree in visual communications (illustration specialisation) and now actually have a little more free time to update my blog.
Things I have been doing these past few weeks:
Only thing left now is my two week intensive-hence the 'almost' part in the title of this blog. It is called idea generation methods for designers. If you havent already, you must check out Sir Ken Robinsons video on how schools are destroying people who are creative.
http://www.youtubevideos1.com/sir-ken-robinson-do-schools-kill-creativity/
I think he brings up such a good point that is easy to sit and listen to without getting bored because he seems to like adding in a little intelligent humour in here and there.
To the left is one of the images I used in my professional portfolio as an example for my book covers for my novel. I think it looks quite nice and I'm super excited for the day when I can go and get it published.
Anyways, this blog is too huge now so I'll be quite. Please tell me your thoughts and what you have been up to.. ^_^ Kerryannne

Things I have been doing these past few weeks:
- getting my portfolio ready for a mock interview. It now looks all professional and ready to take on the world.
- reworking my old drawings that needed a bit if finesse before I was comfortable with it in my portfolio. This included touching up things that my lecturers had spoken about with me. It was nice to show them the work that I had done and they all seemed quite stunned actually at the amount I achieved since they spoke to me about it.
- freaking out over a theory subject that if I didn't pass I would not be able to get my degree
- somewhere between all the due dates, I still made time to go on an outing with my class as an end of year thing and catch up with my other half on a weekly basis... (even if I was completely glued to my laptop screen and my wacom tablet).
